Covation Biomaterials introduced bioPTMEG at Chinaplas 2025, marking a notable advancement in sustainable innovation with its bio-based alternative to conventional petroleum-derived polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG).
bioPTMEG is designed to meet the performance standards required for demanding applications like spandex, polyurethanes, and thermoplastic elastomers while significantly reducing environmental impact. Key sustainability advantages include a 100% bio-based composition derived from non-food-competing feedstocks such as corncobs, a substantial reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil-based counterparts, and compatibility with existing manufacturing processes.
Covation Biomaterials is also planning a forthcoming production facility for its bio-based alternative to PTMEG in Jiangsu Province. The location is slated for mechanical completion in late 2025 and will continue the company’s mission to reduce industry reliance on fossil fuels.
