The GRAAL initiative, led by ERNACT (European Regions Network for the Application of Communications Technology), has been approved as part of the Interreg Atlantic Area programme. Officially titled the “Governance and Regional Atlantic Area Lighthouse,” GRAAL is a digital transformation project with a total budget of €4.3 million. The initiative aims to enhance the Atlantic Area programme’s contributions to environmental protection, economic prosperity, and climate change preparedness. It focuses on integrating the outcomes of previously funded projects into regional and national public policies, while also promoting future collaboration through roadmaps, action plans, and flagship projects.
GRAAL addresses five thematic areas: energy, ocean pollution, climate and risks, nature, and sustainable tourism. Additionally, it incorporates three cross-cutting themes: digitization and innovation, circular economy, and governance. The project seeks to improve coordination among European programmes supporting environmental priorities in the Atlantic Region and deliver forward-looking proposals to shape future strategies. By fostering collaboration among its 11 participating groups, including Donegal County Council, GRAAL aims to strengthen the Atlantic Area’s role in advancing sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
