Firefighters are warning the public to stay away as they respond to a “significant” gas explosion in a residential street in Nottinghamshire.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) said it was working with emergency services from nearby Derbyshire to respond to the incident at a house in John Street, Worksop, on Saturday.
It said: “This is a gas explosion involving a house that has been significantly damaged.”
The fire service said it was called to the scene at 7.39pm, and as of 9.24pm was responding with crews from Warsop, Worksop and Mansfield Fire Station as well as Clowne Fire Station.
Videos posted on social media showed the front of a terraced house had been blown out, while neighbouring houses had their windows damaged.
One person posted on Facebook that they heard “a terrific bang, like a very loud firework” as they turned into Gladstone Street from Gateford Road.
“I thought the back end had blown off my car,” they said. “A house in John Street has had, presumably, a gas explosion!”
NFRS added that it was also responding to an industrial fire in nearby Holgate Road in The Meadows, Nottingham.
A total of ten fire engines responded to the blaze at an old commercial premises in a residential area.
The fire service added: “The building has been severely damaged but there are no reports of any injuries.”
Having been called to the incident at 8.11pm, NFRS said at around 10.30pm that it was scaling their response down as the “fire is now under control”.
Firefighters have not said these incidents are connected.
